Severino’s Age Fraud Exposed | Cleveland Guardians News

A young baseball prospect, David Severino, was suspended by MLB after it was revealed he faked his age using his younger brother’s identity — making him look two years younger than he actually is. The scheme, allegedly orchestrated by his family and trainer, exposed shady practices in the Dominican Republic’s youth scouting system, where teams often evaluate players as early as 13 or 14. Scouts’ gut instincts proved correct — one executive immediately doubted his claimed age, another noticed his face looked older. MLB stepped in after their own investigation, though the Guardians aren’t facing punishment — likely because they were unaware of the deception. This incident underscores the urgent need for MLB to crack down on age fraud, with Severino now serving as a cautionary tale for those involved in the scheme.
