Date: 11.15.09 Speaker: Kristian Martens Texts: Genesis 1 & 2, Songs 4 & 7, Ephesians 5, Matthew 5:27-30, Romans 6:5-6, I Corinthians 6 & 7, Galatians 6:7-8 Summary: When God designed us, he gave us a cultural mandate - be fruitful & multiply - cultivate & have dominion over the entire earth. In our day we dont seem to be capable of having dominion over even our underwear. In this 2nd week of our Made for More series, well look at some common distortions & deceptions our culture holds regarding sexuality & love. Well then shine the light of the Gospel on the subject and seek the Scripture for truth & wisdom as it relates to sexuality & our identity. Purposes of sex will include: oneness/intimacy, pleasure, procreation, knowledge & security - but will emphasize the glory of God. Sex is designed as a pointer to Gods glory & character, and Christian marriages should reflect that beauty in the time & place were called. Christian sex in the city should be radically distinct from the worlds view of sexuality. And that happens by applying the truth of the Gospel to our whole being. We were made for so much more than our culture suggests. May we live in the freedom & joy that Jesus calls us to - and in doing so - be truly Good News to our city.
