Sexual Morality & Racial Identity: How Counselors are Taught Will Shock You. With Gabrielle Turner
from the radical center · host Leslie Elliott Boyce
Gabrielle and I met again to talk about how sex and sexuality were taught in her graduate program, and to get into some analysis of one of the most commonly used textbooks for "multicultural counseling" that is taught as a requirement in mainstream counseling programs. Gabrielle Turner is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) practicing in the Austin, Texas area where she lives with her husband and three cats. She is a 2022 graduate of Texas State University's Professional Counseling Program. Starting her graduate program after raising three sons into their teens, she was prepared to see the infiltration of social justice and other left-leaning ideologies that has characterized higher education in the decades since she completed her undergraduate work. Even so, she was surprised at the level of social justice indoctrination present in the curriculum and especially in the students populating the program. She hopes to see a return to more balanced ways of approaching counselor education so members of the profession can better serve the wide variety of individuals and families seeking help.https://www.psychologytoday.com/profile/1199851https://substack.com/@gabrielleturner303925
