Welcome to episode 4 of Season 2 on CTRH Podcast. Here, as you know, we endeavor have real conversations intended to make an actual difference. On this episode, I am joined by Dr. Kizzie Shako, a Forensic Medical Practitioner,  Sexual & Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Expert. Together, we tackle a very difficult topic, and a trigger warning is necessary due to references to sexual assault, violence and trauma. Our intention is to inform and empower by sharing professional perspectives together with tools and resources available to survivors specifically in our Kenyan context. Today, we discuss Sexual Violence, specifically tackling the Forensics angle. What are the appropriate steps and actions to take in the distressing event of a sexual assault? What services are available to survivors to prevent long term physical and psychological effects? How does one go about reporting the incident and what is done to best preserve evidence to bring the perpetrator to book? We answer these questions and so much more so please click through to watch/listen. Dr. Kizzie Shako is a Forensic Medical Practitioner, director of ESCAPE Forensic Consultancy, a Science for Justice Advocate & Human Rights Defender. She worked in the forensics and pathology services department at the Ministry of Health for 12 years after which she was posted at the police surgery as a police doctor where she dealt with devastating cases of SGBV affecting both adults and children.
