SF Giants Gameday: Webb emerging, Yaz a force, Bart's ranking

The Giants billed the 2020 season as the year they'd learn all about the unproven talent in their organization. Thirteen games in, they're beginning to get some answers. Rookie right-hander Logan Webb turned in the best outing of any Giants starter this season in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Rockies, throwing five innings while allowing just one earned run. Webb has outperformed veterans Johnny Cueto, Jeff Samardzija and Kevin Gausman to open the season and has been the starter responsible for snapping three separate losing streaks this season. With a low-to-mid 90s fastball, an improved changeup and a sweeping slider that has more bite than his breaking ball did a season ago, Webb is showing he's much improved after making his debut late last summer. In Thursday's episode of the SF Giants Gameday podcast, we look at how the Giants' 2020 outfield experiment has played out and examine how two players the front office talked up this offseason have ended up at different ends of the playing time spectrum. Jaylin Davis is still struggling to find a rhythm at the team's alternate site in Sacramento, but Mike Yastrzemski has exceeded expectations and morphed into a reliable everyday player with the type of power that will give him a chance to lead the Giants in home runs for a second straight season. Yastrzemski was never considered a top prospect during his time in the Baltimore Orioles organization, but he has become the Giants' most consistent player this season and his breakthrough shows a player doesn't necessarily need to have the attention of every scout to have a successful major league career. With that being said, great farm systems produce great major league players and the Giants have taken a step forward in accumulating depth at the minor league level in recent years. MLB.com released its top 100 prospect ranking on Tuesday and we took a look at players such as Joey Bart, Marco Luciano and Hunter Bishop as well as the prospects the Giants selected in the 2020 amateur draft.
