SF Giants Gameday: Would the Giants, A's make good trade partners?

On Saturday, February 15, the San Francisco Giants and Oakland A's broke with tradition. The Bay Area rivals hadn't executed a trade since 2004, but Giants executive Farhan Zaidi and A's executive Billy Beane finally broke the drought when San Francisco sent right-handed pitcher Burch Smith to Oakland in exchange for cash considerations. The deal wasn't exactly a blockbuster considering there were no guarantees Smith would make the A's Opening Day roster, but it's turned out to be a great move for Oakland. In five games this season, Smith has thrown 10 1/3 scoreless innings while racking up 10 strikeouts and allowing just four hits. The Giants haven't provided any details on what they've done with the cash they received, but it's safe to say the trade is working out in the A's favor. With roughly two weeks to go until the 2020 trade deadline, the Giants and A's could once again line up for a deal as the two teams are logical trade partners. The A's are in first place in the American League West and could use another pitcher to fortify their rotation while the Giants are in last place in the National League West and could use a prospect or two to add to a robust farm system.
