His name is Stewart Brand and not only did he create, along with his first wife Lois Jennings, this  counterculture magazine that started in 1968 and ran sporadically until 1998, he's credited in helping to be a co-founder of the environmental movement, as well as being one of the first adapters of computer technology as we know it (he was in the garage with Jobs and The Woz folks!), campaigning to see a photograph of the earth on the streets of San Francisco, and is now trying to bring back the woolly mammoth.
