We've talked about a lot of examples this week, but today, I want to talk about giving away information. You know, in early conversations before the sale is closed, it feels natural to share details. It's a way of showing your plans, your numbers, your ideas, and it can help build the connection that will close the deal. It shows your openness to participate, and it can feel like great progress, but a lot of times, it's a mistake. I'll tell you what to do differently right after this. What if the deal falls apart, and all of a sudden your strategy is in someone else's hands? The information doesn't disappear; it just moves somewhere else, and now you've given away your leverage. Information is the key. You've got to protect it, even early on.
