Shadow Waited Four Days

Hour 1 (8.14) Shadow found company four days after Jackie died. KD-1 is 4½, banded, and she's already rearranging Jackie's sticks. Conway can't quit Jackie!   Jackie died on August 10 after nearly a month of intensive care at the Ojai Raptor Center, following her rescue near Big Bear Lake. Shadow's last nest visit had been July 23 — then on August 10, hours after her death was announced, a young, banded eagle called KD-1 turned up at the nest. She hatched in the Prado Basin in 2022, about 70 miles from Big Bear, and biologists say she's just about old enough to mate.
