Shame, Senselessness, and Sovereignty in Job

How do we respond to seemingly senseless pain and suffering? How should we comfort the broken-hearted? Job and his friends illustrate how to respond, and how not to respond, to pain and trauma. Job shows us that while we may not be able to bring sense or order to our suffering, God mercifully invites us into his presence and gives us himself. Rather than resignation to “It is what it is,” Job offers us “I AM who I AM.”
