(Advent 12)“Righteousness will go before him and will make a path for his steps.” - Psalm 85:13It’s hard for folk experiencing neglect and abuse to feel God’s love. It’s hard to feel hopeful and optimistic about one’s future when one is being dishonored, and disrespected, when one’ humanity is denied or diminished. If we want people to experience the reality of God’s love, we must practice righteousness. Righteousness demands that everyone is treated with dignity and respect, and decency. Righteousness demands we practice a type of justice where everyone has access to the necessities of living including work that allows them to supply their daily bread, their clothing, shelter, healthcare, education, and opportunity for self actualization. Righteousness also demands a type of justice that provides for people who cannot provide for themselves. Righteousness, justice, and decency, pave the way for God. I’m Horace McMillon.
