On this episode of Neon Galactic, we interview author and researcher Sharon Hewitt Rawlette, who has been gaining increasing respect and acclaim for her ongoing research into coincidences, synchronicities, and the survival of consciousness after death.She is a philosopher and public intellectual who writes and speaks on the topics of consciousness, anomalous experience, ethics, and spirituality. She is also the founder and director of the Mind & Meaning Institute and blogs for Psychology Today.In this conversation we discuss how events in her own life led to her research into coincidences, synchronicities, and paranormal phenomena – how they all relate, and how those experiences reveal threads in the fabric of reality.We also discuss her book, The Source and Significance of Coincidences, and the breadth of research it took to make those comprehensive arguments.Rawlette recently finished writing a new work of academic philosophy in which she presents an alternative to the reigning physicalist, mechanistic paradigm. We discuss those ideas, as well as how values more generally may play into the architecture of the universe. In November 2021, Sharon was named a runner-up in the Bigelow Institute for Consciousness Studies essay contest for her essay “Beyond Death.” This essay summarizes and analyzes the best evidence for life after death collected over the last 150 years. It’s available for free on the BICS website as well as in paperback, on Kindle, and as an audiobook.Sharon writes about coincidences and other topics on her Psychology Today blog, Mysteries of Consciousness, and has presented her research at the Division of Perceptual Studies (DOPS) at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and at the Esalen Institute’s Center for Theory and Research.
