Sharon Quarles Author of A Bona Fide Conqueror Part 2

from Moments of Grace Podcast · host Dr. A. Jerome R. Butler

I don’t have to worry about “Deddy” messing with me again, I thought. But within a few minutes, those feelings quickly changed to anxiety. Deddy came back into my room looking a little deranged and he was holding a gun. He put the gun to my head and asked, “You gonna do what?” My heart felt as if it would pound out of my chest, while the rest of my body felt paralyzed. I tried to shout out, “I WON’T TELL!” but I was too dumbfounded to utter those words. Deddy withdrew the gun from my head and aggressively plunged it into my hand, clenching my scrawny finger on the trigger. As my finger rested reluctantly on the trigger, I was careful not to make one move, terrified the gun might go off. Then in a sober voice, Deddy said, ”No. You can just kill me.” Lastly, he placed the gun to his head and declared, “I’ll kill myself.” My childlike mind desperately tried to absorb everything that had transpired right before me. As things were happening, I marveled at the fact that I might die for boldly blurting out that I was going to tell. I was left wondering if he was really about to fulfill his promise.
