Sharpen the Broadheads

from The Sportsman's Light · host Patrick

No bowhunter heads into September with dull broadheads. August is for sharpening — touching up edges, spinning arrows, tuning the bow until everything flies true. Dull equipment fails at the moment of truth, and the moment of truth is exactly when you cannot fix it.Solomon said men are sharpened the same way iron is: by friction with other iron. Not by isolation. Not by comfort. By honest contact with other men who are strong enough to push back, question, challenge, and encourage.Who sharpens you? If every relationship in your life only tells you what you want to hear, you are dulling, not sharpening. Find the men who make you better — who ask the hard questions about your marriage, your faith, your temper, your habits. And be that man for someone else. Edges are made, not born.Prayer:Lord, bring iron into my life — men who sharpen me, challenge me, and hold me to a higher standard. And give me the humility to receive it.Make me a sharpener of others too. Don't let me settle for comfortable, dull relationships when You designed men to make each other better. Amen.Challenge:While you're sharpening equipment this month, sharpen a friendship: ask one trusted friend, 'Where do you see me getting dull — in my faith, my family, or my character?' Then listen without defending yourself.
