She Chapter 5 - The Head of the Ethiopian

In which the rising sun reveals a colossal rock carved like a negro’s head, suggesting the handiwork of some forgotten civilisation as our party, cast upon a strip of dry land amid vast marshes, discovers ancient stone wharf remnants and begins exploring the forbidding river that lies before them. Their journey brings them into the company of wild creatures, culminating in a fierce and rare battle between a lion and a crocodile, whilst the omnipresent torment of relentless mosquitoes and the haunting calls of lions remind them of the savage wildness that surrounds them.
