I suck at keeping in contact with people even if I like them. Why am I like this?Karine Odile, Translator (2010-present)Answered Aug 14Some people just don’t understand why they should keep in touch with friends/relatives/loved ones even if they do care about them. This may be due to:The amount of emotional closeness they can stand: if they are naturally quite emotionally distant with people, they won’t try to keep in touch, unless it’s necessary.A specific condition: schizoid personality, Asperger’s syndrome, and the like. Because of the way their brain is wired, people with this condition don’t find it necessary to keep in touch on a regular basis.Post traumatic stress disorder: people with this disorder may wish to deal with their issues alone and don’t want to put up with others’ daily issues because it’s already hard for them to manage their own stress., since one has to be emotionally available to deal regularly with people and maintain a constant contact.People with an avoidant attachment style: they can’t stand emotional closeness, therefore they limit emotional interactions to the minimum. To keep in touch also means to develop some emotional closeness with someone else. The people involved in the interactions are not deemed important, so they feel no need to deepen the relationships by keeping in touch with them.Introverts, lone wolfs, etc. enjoy their alone time, therefore they will limit any interactions with others, even if they love them. They need to make extra effort to keep in touch even with family members and friends.
