Shelton Stuns Alcaraz in Epic U.S. Open Night | Miami News

Ben Shelton stunned the tennis world by defeating reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set, 3:33 AM marathon at the U.S. Open — the latest finish in tournament history. With fans chanting “USA! USA!” and Shelton’s blistering serves (over 140 mph) sealing the final tiebreaker, he not only ended Alcaraz’s 18-match Grand Slam winning streak but also secured an American men’s final showdown against Frances Tiafoe. This marks the first time since 2003 that an American man reaches a Grand Slam final — a historic moment for U.S. tennis. Despite battling illness and playing his first tournament back from injury, Alcaraz gave everything, but Shelton’s power and poise delivered the win, propelling him to his third major semifinal and his first victory over a top-five seed in a Grand Slam.
