Sheriff Apologizes for Controversial Social Media Comment | Las Vegas News

Nye County Sheriff Joe McGill issued a public apology after his office’s Facebook page posted a sarcastic, insensitive comment blaming critics for not treating inmate Stevie Miller — whose death in custody has sparked outrage and legal action. The sheriff admitted he made the remark himself, which drew widespread backlash for its tone and lack of empathy. Two deputies now face manslaughter charges over Miller’s June 9 arrest and subsequent death. As the investigation continues, the department is also undergoing an internal review — while some applaud McGill’s accountability, others demand deeper systemic change.
