Shields Soars as Royals’ Top Prospect | Kansas City Royals News

David Shields, drafted at just 17, is rewriting the script for teenage pitching prospects—leading the Royals’ system with elite stats, including 132 strikeouts in his last 23 starts and a jaw-dropping 6% walk rate. After a shaky start, he’s found his groove, posting a 3.74 ERA while limiting homers and slugging percentages. A two-sport star who signed for $2.3M to skip college, Shields earned Pitcher of the Year in his first pro season and is now firmly on track to become one of baseball’s top prospects.
