Australian regulators are moving to quash the reckless behaviour that happens when company managers and shareholders have an irrational focus on short-term corporate performance rather than long-term value creation. Excessive remuneration has been blamed for being the main driver of short-term thinking, but will more regulation of companies offer a solution? And, will the attempts to encourage investors and companies to adopt a longer perspective stick? The answer may be in a more integrated international approach.
