Taongi ist das nördlichste und trockenste Atoll der Marshallinseln im Pazifik. Das nur 3 Quadratkilometer große, unbewohnte Eiland wurde am 21. August 1526 von Alonso de Salazar entdeckt. Erst nach neuneinhalb Jahren fand man am Strand das Wrack eines vermissten Bootes – ganz in der Nähe eines Grabes.
