Phil Bourjaily has been writing about shotguns and shotgunning for longer than I’ve been hunting. I always enjoy visiting with the Field & Stream Shotgun Editor and with dove season upon us I figured it was time for another visit with our old friend. Phil gives us a few tips for the lazy hunter who didn’t put in the time at the skeet range during the off season. Plus which shots give hunters the most trouble? What shot size does he prefer for dove and why? What about the lethality of lead vs steel dove loads? Then we spend some time ranking different types of wingshooting by degree of difficulty. Dove, ducks, quail, pheasant, geese, grouse…which do you think is the hardest? Based of shell to bird ratio, hunters throw more shells at dove than other species, does Phil fall into the same category as most of us? Next, I’m joined in studio by singer/songwriter and guitar picker extraordinaire Joshua Ray Walker. I’m not sure why it took me so long to find his music, but I’m sure glad I did! I think you’re going to enjoy it as well. In addition to playing some original tunes, Josh talks about his upbringing, fishing with his dad, boat shows with this mom and a button he found in his grandpa’s drawer that lead to his latest radio single.
