Should Doral Expand To Meet A Growing Demand For Housing In This Booming Miami Suburb?

In Episode 72, expert Peter Zalewski of Condo Vultures interviews Juan Carlos "J.C." Bermudez - the current and founding mayor of Doral and a partner in the SMGQ Law firm in Coral Gables - about the future of residential development in the booming Miami suburb of Doral, a hub for foreign trade located immediately west of the Miami International Airport. Bermudez talks about the possibility of the city expanding, increased density for new developments to meet the need for residential product and an initiative to reposition a neighborhood of antiquated warehouses into an arts district on the level of the popular Wynwood neighborhood in Greater Downtown Miami.    In Segment 1, Bermudez discusses growing up in Cuba, New York and ultimately Miami. Bermudez, who admits to being an argumentative child, attended the University of Miami for his undergraduate degree before graduating from law school at the University of Notre Dame, a major college football rival of Miami at the time.  Bermudez specializes in land-use, real estate transactions and corporate work.        In Segment 2, Bermudez shares the challenges and opportunities that were critical to the grassroots effort to incorporate the city of Doral in 2003. Bermudez also discusses the phases of development that have and will continue to occur as Doral approaches its 20-year anniversary of its founding.       In Segment 3, Bermudez discusses the possibility of expanding the city's boundaries, increasing density to meet the need for more residential product and attracting more art and culture to the community.
