Should Ryan Day Be On The Hot Seat? | Ohio State Football 2023

Ohio State Head Coach Ryan Day is entering 2023 under a cloud of mystery and speculation. After losing to Michigan again in 2022, by a score of 22-45 in Columbus, and then losing to Georgia 41-42 in the Peach Bowl, some would argue the seat is getting warmer for Ryan Day. His teams just haven't reached the caliber of the 2019 squad and he is now 1-2 against Jim Harbaugh, who before 2021 was 0-5 against the Ohio State Buckeyes. I disagree with the notion that Ryan Day is on the hot seat. I think he is facing pressure to beat Michigan, win the Big Ten, and win a National Championship, those are facts. However, he is not in a do-or-die situation in terms of winning games, and unless he has a record worse than 10-3, I severely doubt he will be fired after 2023. He is 45-6 as a head coach and 6-5 in Top 10 matchups, he shouldn't even be associated with the hot seat. His 2022 team was one play away from being 13-1 and winning the College Football Playoff and that same team was his 2nd best unit in his time at Ohio State. With Jim Knowles and the defensive staff in year two, and with several offensive starters returning, I wholeheartedly believe the Buckeyes will exceed predictions not just in 2023, but especially in 2024 when Michigan will have severe roster attrition.
