Should you validate married person that claim they have permission

So have you ever met somene that claims they are married and they have permission to play alone? Their significant other either has lost interest in sex, suffers from a physical ailment or they are no longer romantic and just co-exist. We have had some of these people and have always wondered if we should verify their statement.
