Built under the patronage of King Vishnuvardhana, it stood proudly on the banks of the Kaveri River in the village of Kannambadi. However, with the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam in the early 20th century, the temple was submerged underwater.In a remarkable feat of restoration, the temple was relocated and rebuilt stone by stone at Hosa Kannambadi in 2000.
