Shut It Down

About that government shutdown.****You know it’s just another distraction right? [Intro]Distraction level one. [Verse 1]Look at the headline, check the fear, they’re feeding you the fightThey point the finger at the left, they point the finger at the rightIt’s a manufactured meltdown, a crisis on repeatThey shut the doors to tell you that the power cannot be beatBut the gears are still turning, the money’s still flowing smoothWhile the talking heads are screaming, trapped in their little grooveThis government is a theatre, a circus act for the meekThey want us fighting each other, while the masters quietly speak. [Pre-Chorus]I see the strings attached to every single suit and tieThey pull the thread of panic and watch the masses comply! You call it a breakdown, I call it a tool of the trade! It’s the puppet masters working in the shadows they made! [Chorus]SHUT IT DOWN! Tear the whole damn thing apart!SHUT IT DOWN! Stop the poison in the heart! This distraction is the cancer, a cover for the real cost!SHUT IT DOWN! Or freedom will be permanently lost!SHUT IT DOWN! SHUT IT DOWN! SHUT IT DOWN! [Verse 2]They use the shutdown threat, the brink of the fiscal fallA simple slight of hand to ensure we ignore the wallThe wall of wealth, the wall of secrecy, the wall of corporate powerThey hide behind the bureaucracy in their insulated towerWhile the people on the street are forced to take a side in the messDebating the semantics of the latest media stressWake up! The enemy is not the person on the other side of the screenIt’s the system built to blind us, the machine that keeps us mean. [Bridge]They want you focused on the drama, the theatrics of the shutdown. Who’s to blame? Whose fault is it? Who cares! It’s all just smoke and mirrors! Every minute you spend fighting your neighbor is a minute they spend consolidating control. They’re laughing. The real power lives outside those walls. The only way to win is to make the tool useless. The only way to beat the game is to walk away from the board.
