Sian's Story
from Blocked Britain · host Blocked Britain
Sian, 29, from Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes wanted to train as a nurse to serve her community in Yorkshire and The Humber, one of England's most deprived areas. But HM Treasury's spending limits on Health Education England meant training places were capped far below what local hospitals desperately needed. The capacity to train more healthcare workers existed. People like Sian were ready to fill those places. What was missing was a central government willing to fund the posts that would get qualified nurses onto understaffed wards. Instead, Westminster treated public investment as a cost to minimise rather than the means to deliver healthcare where it's needed most. Disclosure: Blocked Britain receives no government funding and maintains editorial independence from all political parties.
