Aroundthe world, governments, communities, and young innovators are driving meaningful environmental progress. A major milestone was reached with the High Seas Treaty entering into force, creating a legal framework to protect vast areas of the ocean beyond national borders, while campaigns such as "Hands Off" are building support to safeguard the Central Arctic Ocean Ice Shield. The clean energy transition is also accelerating, with wind and solar power generating 30% of the European Union’s electricity in 2025, surpassing fossil fuels for the first time, and breakthroughs in clean hydrogentechnology helping industries reduce emissions. Community action continues to make a difference, with more than 22,400 volunteers participating in restoration projects across 55 countries and the UK's River Mease restoration earning national recognition for its successful ecosystem recovery. At the same time, local energy projects such as solar-powered microgrids are strengthening community resilience, while young innovators in programs like UNICEF’s UPSHIFTers and the Arctic Angels network are developing creative solutions and advocating for environmental protection.
