Silently Speaking through Sculpture: Marisol Escobar

In the world of art history, only a few have made a big impact on how art is seen. Among famous artists, some special ones are often overlooked. This week, Stauney introduces us to Marisol Escobar who navigated artistic landscapes from Paris to New York and Los Angeles and existed in an insurmountable amount of artistic movements. As a child, an early tragedy left her mute for a decade, and as a woman, she grappled with the gendered confines of both feminist and 'boys' club' spheres, choosing silence regarding her personal life, and letting her sculptures convey her words. Marisol Escobar remains an influential force in Pop and Contemporary art, even as history unjustly confines her to its margins. In this episode, we uncover Marisol's remarkable life, artistry, and enduring legacy.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
