Silver Bullets Podcast: B1G Media Days, position battles, injuries, and dotting the I

Ohio State opens camp in just a couple of days, and it’s almost time to see what the Buckeyes can do during the upcoming season. News isn’t as plentiful for those of us who aren’t covering recruiting over the last month, but there are still some items to discuss. We open this show with a discussion of some items from the recent Big Ten Media Days, including some things said by Ryan Day and Oregon Ducks Head Coach Dan Lanning. We then move into a preview of the big position battles coming up during camp, with the two biggest ones on the offensive side of the football. There was bad news out of Ohio State as TC Caffrey picked up a serious injury and is out for the upcoming season. We discuss what that means for the OSU running backs room and what we’re likely to see this fall from that group. There was some Ohio State-related news out of the NFL as well. Last month, we talked about Gareon Conley being signed by the Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately, Conley was an early camp cut, and the former Buckeye defensive back is retiring from the game. In more positive news, Kendall Sheffield was signed by the New York Jets. We’re not getting too excited for him just yet, because he’ll have an uphill battle to make the roster. Still, he’s got an opportunity, and in a business like football, that’s just about all you can hope for. Finally, we turn our attention toward the great news that Archie Griffin will get to dot the iconic ‘i’ in Script Ohio this fall. We’re amazed it hasn’t happened yet, and we believe that capturing the Heisman Trophy twice means Archie should get to dot the ‘i’ twice as well. We also discuss some of the other worthy names who should be permitted this honor. We will return to our weekly schedule in August, as camp opens and we get you ready for the 2024 Ohio State football season.
