Send us Fan MailMay Ooi is a true blue Singapore sporting legend. A child prodigy who started competing in swim meets from the age of 9, she broke her first national record at at the age of 12! May was an Olympian at age 16, competing in 7 events at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. She also amassed a total of 10 individual medals, including 2 Golds, over 5 South East Asian Games.A trained medical doctor, May started her love affair with the Afro-Brazilian martial arts, Capoeira, while on vacation in Brazil. Her chat with the Legend Royler Gracie led her on the journey to becoming a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter. Her Pro MMA record stands at 4-2-0 after retiring in 2019, having won her last 2 fights in the One Championship! All that as May also battled depression when she lost her fiancé, Silvio Romero da Silva, to a bike accident in late 2016. May presently is focused on her Capoeira School at the Brazilian Cultural and Sports Center which she owns and also on her public speaking gigs, sharing her wealth of experience and pearls of wisdom with the community. As the Vice-Chairwoman of the Women and Sports Committee, she is also paying it forward helping out female athletes in their career.
