Author Simon Stephenson's road to novel writing was long and winding. After his brother died in the 2004 Thailand tsunami, Simon left his job as a doctor in the United Kingdom. He went to bring his brother home but ended up extending that trip several months. Out of that tragedy came his first book, a memoir about his brother and the tsunami, and the re-start of his writing career, which took him from television to Pixar and now to novel writing.
