‘Bridge Over Troubled Waters’ fue el último álbum que publicó el dúo Simon and Garfunkel tras una carrera de cuatro años. Paul Simon dedicó dos meses a componer el álbum. En ese tiempo, Art Garfunkel no se quedó mano sobre mano, y firmó una película con Mike Nichols. Aunque es considerado el mejor álbum del dúo neoyorquino, las sesiones no hicieron nada por calmar las tensiones entre el dúo, motivado por el afán de protagonismo de Garfunkel y la dirección de Paul Simon. Para cuando el álbum alcanzó el nº1 en marzo de 1970, el dúo se había disuelto.
