You and I should finish the same sentence Paul starts. “I have learned…”. What would you say? Experience is a teacher and in each chapter of life there are lessons we learn. Where are you now? As a student, young adult, parent, friend, grand-parent, and every other role we learn. In Philippians 4 Paul gives us his wisdom and the Church has cherished it ever since. The Extra Mile: The Apostle Paul learned the virtues he teaches the hard way in certain cases. Paul was an educated Rabbi, taught by one of the most famous Rabbis, Gamaliel, who is mentioned in Acts 22:3. Because of his education Paul would have had an exposure to the moral guidance of the Bible. He also learned from his experience which included being imprisoned, beaten, shipwrecked and more. Between education and life Paul learned which is also true for us. Scripture: I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
