from Oklahoma City First Church Sermons & Devotionals · host First Church OKC

We have a complex relationship with money. The average American annually spends 102% of their income, meaning the average American is falling into debt more and more each year. Americans are drowning in debt. This is surprising as America is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. If you earn $25,000 a year are in the top 2% in income in the world. If you are simple within our boarders of the U.S.A. are are automatically in the top 5% in income in the world. The complexity is that we have so much, but really so little to show for it. We think if we just had more money then everything else would work out. However, the National Endowment for Financial Education estimates that 70% of those who have unexpectedly come into large sums of money end up broke within seven years. Almost 90% of NFL players are broke within five years of retiring. Over 70% of winners of mega lottery drawings are bankrupt within 5 years. Our problem, often times, is not money. It's a deeper heart issue.  In this episode we'll examine our complex relationship with money and how we can simplify that relationship. We will see the importance of aligning our use of money with our life values and priorities.
