(I John 3:15) Murder stands next to the crime of sinning against the Holy Ghost. Murder is an unforgiveable sin, but sinning against the Holy Ghost is unforgiveable and unpardonable. A murderer, at some future time, will receive a pardon for that sin, but it still remains unforgiveable. If the ministers of religion had a proper understanding of the doctrine of eternal judgment, they would not be found attending the man who forfeited his life to the injured laws of his country, by shedding innocent blood; for such characters cannot be forgiven until they have paid the last farthing.
