Single Mothers

According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation, 67% of African American households are headed by a single parent - in Virginia, 58% of black households are single parent households. The reasons are many - women who choose to be a single mom, divorce, death, incarceration of the dad, poverty...you get the picture. And while the usual stereotype of a single parent is a young women on welfare, uneducated and with no direction, the truth is that many single parents become so out of life circumstance. Women who suddenly find themselves in a single parent situation often do not know where to turn for help. On the next Another View, we'll talk with Monica and Tony Brothers, creators of the Still Hope Foundation, an organization that works with single mothers to help them get back on track, and we'll meet a single mother who successfully completed the program.
