Sit a Spell: What Does it Mean to "Sit a Spell?"

from UTIAg Hosted by UTIAg

Sit a Spell is a podcast about slowing down, remembering who we are, and chatting about it. Folks used to ask you to come up on the porch and sit a spell. Today, we revive sitting a spell and chat about ways of our heritage and how we utilize those traditions and skills for the future. Season 1 will be all about food preservation. Join us for the first episode as we knock the dust off and dive-in. Disclaimer: This podcast is best enjoyed on a front porch rocking chair while sipping sweet tea out of a mason jar.

Welcome to the SITISPEL podcast. And I'm one of your hosts, Justin Thomas. And I've got some friends, Megan Brown and Crystal Blankenship, where all extension agents for UT and TSU Extension in the state of Tennessee. Good friends, like to go to football games and barbecue together.

And we decided to do a little podcast called SITSPEL. Back in the day, folks used to say, come on up and sit at a spell. And we'd sit on the porch or we'd sit around a fire. And we'd just say, hey, and shoot the breeze and tell stories.

And so we thought, what better way to get information out than just sit at a spell, man? So we throw on the record button. We sit at a spell and we talk about some things. So this is season one of the SITSPEL podcast.

And on SITSPEL, what we're doing this year and this season is we're talking about food preservation. So we're going to sit down and just have some real serious conversations by serious. I mean, absolutely hilarious. And we're going to talk about all things food preservation, myths, bad things that we see on social media, bad things we've heard from our family, and how we learned how to correct those practices through the research.

And so just one of those conversational formats instead of a formal learning environment. So we hope that you'll choose to come on in at SITSPEL. This season, you'll have Justin Thomas. That's me from Bradley County Extension.

You'll have Megan Brown from Meg's County Extension. And Crystal Blankenship from Cumberland County Extension. Coming to you with fun food and good friendly conversation. So come on in, join us in SITSPEL as we talk about food preservation this summer.
