from AWESOME PEOPLE FIRECAST SERIES · host Cherry Africa

Social distancing is necessary, but it is expensive not just in monetary terms, but also in energy and influence.  In a heartbeat, we are all faced with uncertainty that requires upending our strategies to figure out a way to win this war. New Reality, New Rules In a situation that requires that we are at least 6 feet apart from each other,  leaders are now worrying about communication break down, changes in personality, feelings of scarcity, emotional numbness, avoidant attitude and even a shorter fuse at work.  Bottomline, the quality of work can suffer and results will decline. The new normal is now a  free agent, forcing changes in our beliefs and behavior, whether or not you want to be a part of it.  This change is happening at every level, from huge organizations to local communities, to changes within a single family.  People will wake up to a new reality where meetings seem incomplete without healthy debates and transactions are not sealed with a handshake or a hug .  It will soon no longer be uncommon in business to hear the term presentee-ism (as opposed to absenteeism) which means ‘people working long hours but with little impact’. As we are wired to the new realities, we begin depending on the power of relationships and leadership, who we are confident will deal us the hope we need to elevate us to the space to which we are all connected on this planet.  The new normal is moving far more rapidly than the organizational systems can keep up with.  And people play a crucial role in awakening the human spirit on fire to affect us in ways that will continue to make us compassionate and influential people.  We have this force born inside all of us - that’s why PEOPLE ARE AWESOME.
