In which the fastidious and solitary Mr. Augustus Minns, a government clerk of exacting habits and aversions, is reluctantly drawn into the boisterous and convivial domestic sphere of his garrulous cousin, Mr. Octavius Budden, his wife, and their exuberant son. Vexed by myriad social mishaps and the intrusion of a troublesome dog, Mr. Minns endures the pleasantries of a country dinner party before returning to his orderly creature comforts with a weary spirit.
