June 1, 1987. Fresno, California. Sixteen-year-old Theresa Ann Bier skips school and heads into the Sierra Nevada Mountains with 43-year-old Russell “Skip” Welch, a self-proclaimed mountain man with a history of drug use and an obsession with Bigfoot. Only Skip returns. When investigators ask what happened to Theresa, his explanation is as bizarre as it is disturbing. Skip claims Bigfoot abducted her—and insists Theresa would not want to come home. But behind that unbelievable story lies a missing teenager, a suspicious man, and a family desperate for answers. Theresa’s uncle, John Richmond, refuses to accept that she simply vanished into the wilderness, while questions continue to surround Skip’s actions before and after the trip. Was the Bigfoot story the delusion of a drug-addled mind, a calculated attempt to conceal a crime, or something even stranger?
