Sleep: Is It Affecting Your Health?

from The Wellness Spotlight with Elizabeth Madison, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Weight Loss Coach · host Elizabeth Madison, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Weight Loss Coach

Sleep plays a critical role in health. Poor sleep can affect every life area. It can increase your risk of developing some diseases like diabetes. It can make it harder to lose weight or fight off diseases. This is especially critical for communities of color who have unique traits that predispose them to sleep challenges This week’s guest, Dr. Azizi Seixas, Assistant Professor at NYU Langone Health, in the Department of Population Health and Department of Psychiatry, will share how the quality of your sleep can affect your blood sugar, blood pressure, hormones, memory and even your ability to manage stress. Dr. Naa-Solo Tettey, Assistant Professor of Public Health at William Paterson University and the creator and director of the HeartSmarts faith-based cardiovascular health education program at New York Presbyterian Hospital, will share how a FAITH-BASED approach to heart health has saved hundreds of lives.
