Everybody, we're back with another episode of Horror Movie Night, and this is the kickoff to Listener Submitted Month. The beloved month that all of us look forward to.
Yeah, it's the most wonderful time. I think I did that last year too. And it carried us through. We had a good run last year.
We had a good line up last year. Well, we'll see how this goes this year. So to read our email that we received for today's episode, 2005's Sleep Over Nightmare, it says, yo, yo, yo, what's up, guys? I'm so pumped to see what happens with this year's Listener Submitted Month.
You've been killing it with each episode. So I thought I want to keep the killing going. Should I suggest Sleep Over Nightmare? This beauty of Canadian trash cinema is on its 20th year anniversary this year.
And therefore, 20th anniversary of the summer, I watched it countless times. I think it was the movie that kept slotting in on the screen TV as the Canadian content. So what is Sleep Over Nightmare? It's a low-budget indie slasher flick that stars a bunch of teens and early 20-year-olds very early on in their career.
Teens are having a Sleep Over Party when an escaped burner is in the area. What more could you ask for? You've got cheesy lines that will make your eyes roll, death by beer can, terribly blank infidelity along with less subtle sexual puns. I should also mention that this movie totally messed me up as a 12-year-old because it really twisted my mentality about by making me think everyone was probably going to cheat on me and I would laugh at it and I'd be laughed at for it.
You might see why in the scene that shows the origin of the killer, Jesus. All that said, I do think they paced it out decently for what it was and when the police are brought into the story, I find they actually did something interesting with how it played out and they did that well. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this piece of shit because it's an old classic for me. Also side note, one of the bonus features on the DVD is a Q&A pajama party with a director and stars with the director and stars and it says, and comfortable as it sounds.
Love you guys. Bring me back on sometime. Pretty please. I had a blast last time.
Benji. Oh, well, to that Benji. Let me just tell you. I, because he's right about one thing, this movie's trash.
This is trash. This is trash. You know, Benji had mentioned it to me. I can't remember if it was before or after the submission, but I recognize the title because at my used DVD store, it was there and upon further review, it's an independently released Canadian DVD.
It's not like this. And if you just even Google search sleepover nightmare, all you get is the cover image of sleepover nightmare from the DVD release. There's really, this is not, this movie exists, but it's not easy to come by, but it's also just in that pile of trash that exists. So I'm glad that I was able to, well, I don't know if I'm glad, but I was able to procure a copy.
I've not watched that special feature yet, but I was very happy to find that there is a beer just called Benji. So I'm drinking Benji. I was trying to figure out today what to get and I look in the cooler and Benji's right there waiting for me. So I got from, from Travis beer company out of Milford.
Do you have anything to pair with this other than maybe just pure grain alcohol to pour into your eyes? Scott, or what's the deal? I have the tamest drink I could think of because this is the tamest movie we've ever watched, I would say. So I just have water because if this was a sleepover in 2005, I would be, well, actually no, not in 2005.
If it was a sleepover in 2000, let's just say, you would have been having water or surge, but surge is not something that I can come by these days. No, no water it is. You know, normally at this point in the show, one of us is going to dive into the plot summary and that's still going to happen. I do feel like for these listeners submit it picks, right?
I can say that I've only even heard of one of the three that we're doing before before we dive into this month. These are some, this is possibly the deepest cut crop of listeners submitted we've ever had, which is fine. But I think before we even dive into the plot description, we just need to say what we thought about the movie. Kyle, you made your opinions pretty well known.
I like, I rated this one and a half stars on Letterbox, but like, I feel like that's crueler than my enjoyment level was. There was something about how cheap and lazy this was the dude like, scratch an itch and maybe it was because I watched it at 1.5 speed and it's an hour and 10 minutes. So it flew by like a 45 minute teen slasher short film, but I don't know if I'll ever rewatch it, but I didn't hate my time watching this one. How about you, Scott?
Were you familiar with this movie or was this the first watch? No, no, and the way that this works for me was so I can't remember if Benji messaged me on Instagram first or if yeah, I think that he said something to me on Instagram. He was in all our ears. He was in mind.
He was in his cheating. He said it's cheating. Benji, you figured this out. So he was pouring the poison in our ears and then I was like, I mean, that sounds absolutely terrible.
Like, send us an email. And so he did and I was like, I read the email, it sounds hilarious and terrible, but like, I can't find a copy. And I was like, if you can get us a ripped copy, I will bend their arms. I was with their arms to do this because it's so obscure and it sounds hilariously bad.
And so he was like, I don't have a copy, but Kyle does. Yeah. All right. So you got a copy?
No, no, I found, he had told me about the name, he had told me the name, like, slow-pitched me the name of the movie and I recognized that I had passed this, it used books, used books or used to do D-Shop multiple times. I never picked it up and I picked up the cover quite often, turned it around and like, a little bit to Matt's point, there was a little bit of a comfort level to this because it is super cheap and it was almost nostalgic for those early offs by watching this. That's what the girls outfits were, their peaking piece peakinges were like a total of my work back to the candy over the bikini. Yeah, this is genuinely a bad movie, but even for a first time viewer, if you grew up at a certain time, this is like a warm nostalgic blanket of like a simpler time watching horror movies in your friends' basement.
Like these are like the random pieces of schlock that what it makes me think of for 2005, 2005 would have been Netflix being a new thing that exclusively sent DVDs in the mail and just seeing a picture of a box art to a horror movie you've never heard of before and being like, well, I'm going to have them send that to me. And then you watch it and it's something of this caliber. It's something that's just like, oh, like fucking people just shot this with their friends in the backyard and called it a day. And like I was messaging you guys a few things while watching it and I still stand by a few of the things that I said, aye, this is the most Canadian thing we've ever watched.
Like the accents are like straight out of letter Kenny. Like it's insane how thick the Canadian accents are. The first time Dwight calls the other characters goofs and I forget how derogatory that is in Canadian. Goofs is pretty harsh, but it just sounds, it's the accents and some of the lingo, which wasn't heavy, but it was enough to be like, oh, yeah, Canadian for sure.
And the, you had texted us and said, I have to watch this on a train. Is this safe to watch on a train? And I think my response was a long lines of you'll be blown away by the gymnastics done to not show a boob in this video. It was incredible.
It was incredible. It was incredible. It was so stupid. It's so like, it seems like they had a good time making it over the course of three days.
And I am shocked by the fact that, yeah, all mornings, and I'm really shocked by the fact that they even had the flashback scene because there are a lot of extras in this. I don't know where they found them. And they're all the most, they're not ugly, but they're all kind of pretty. I'll tell you how that happened.
They just said, Hey, you hosers, we're shooting a movie. You want to be in it? And then all their friends came over. So the main slutty blonde, I guess, I didn't write down name Shannon.
Shannon. Shannon. The host of the host of the host of the host of the host of the host of the host of the host is for sure. She and the main dude are fuck buddies.
And they like go to some little. Shit. The gardener shed. Yeah, it's like the gardeners.
It's the gardeners. I love that the gardener shows up afterwards with like this really thick Irish brogue and doesn't smell the sex in there. I was expecting him to say something when he walks in. What the hell are these fucking kids?
But so they go in. So Shannon pulls the dude with the floppy blonde hair in and she goes, I wanted to show you your back to school present. And then it's boobs. But it's like, so he saw those boobies because but it's like, it's, this isn't for three.
Just for everybody's. Yeah. Literally, it's literally the joke that's in screen, right? When that handles like, which you said over a PG 13 sex life, and then you just see from the back that she's flashed him.
Yeah. Okay, whatever. But then they like continue to like make out and start to have sex and the whole time, it's like the amount of work that had to probably go into making sure that body parts were covering nipple throughout the society scene is psychotic because we get almost an entire boob minus nipple in a shot. I commend them for not doing that.
You know what I mean? Like, I was like, wow, okay, that's good, good for good for you. This was intentional. You set out to make a pull.
It's very, it's very respectful. I also, I don't. Okay, so, so for, for Patreon, for the patrons who are listening to this, the areaola situation in this movie is so much smaller than the situation in our Patreon movie. Oh, yeah.
That's already cut. That's already out in the people's ears by the time this episode's cut out. Well, I just want the Patreon we had to talk about barbed wire recently. So that totally opposite issue on that one made up like back to back this week made up a lot of ground for sleep overnight.
Both equally confusing. Super, super confusing. So Kyle, I'm going to let you start doing this part some right now, but I will say that the opening shot is a house with text on the screen letting us know that it's like in a silent for the criminally insane. And that immediately I was like, oh no, like they didn't even have a budget to make a fake sign to establish this location.
They had to just type it out in iMovie or something and plop it on the top of the building. Do you think that they had iMovie for this in 2005? Hey, i had iMovie in 2004. That was the what came for free with a Mac.
That's right. But the budget went into the operating system, not necessarily anything else. Yeah, no, that is the Coxilla Institute for the criminally insane. It has done in a text and not in a sign.
And nor does the van have any signage that is transporting this madman to an undisclosed location. This person is just being transported. And it doesn't even, this madman doesn't even cause a car accident and a Wuga Ferrari horn and a dumb security officer driver cause an accident. And we actually get to see, we get to see a car crash.
We get to see this van drive off the road and basically hit a tree. Whatever. Into a ditch, I should say. Listen, whatever they didn't have in the budget for nudity and proper filmmaking, they had it for multiple car crashes that I was impressed by.
For the budget, this car crashes and multiple car extras. This is a car heavy. It's a vehicle to get to. But yes, there are multiple car crashes.
One that is actually in two in the first 12 minutes. It's wild. So this madman ends up killing any of the survivors of this accident and he flees, right? Very Michael Myers of him.
So we cut to a house party at the lake. It seems to be maybe 10 a.m. At this lake. And this is a great-ass party.
There's trampolines, trampolines. Yeah, so much for the people. And there's beach volleyball, but not on the beach. Yes, thank you.
And they said that there are that Dwight, who is the team who Ross Lynch, brings a nondescript Carly, but as I found out, Carly is spelled K-A-R-L-I in this movie. Crazy choice. But this party does have everything it has. Bikini clad babes only covered by their spaghetti strap cammies.
Hawaiian shirt and cargo shirt and men. Trampoline, park volleyball as opposed to beach volleyball. Not even on a park. It's just a yard volleyball.
They have water skiing. There is a sauna. One dude is really talented. It's not water skiing.
That's what is it's when you're- Wakeboarding? No, no, no. He's actually skiing without skis. It's like a speed.
Yeah, he's very talented. I feel like that guy, I think he probably put that in his B-roll. He was like, oh, I'm a stunt man. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I would say that in those resumes of special talents or interests, it was water skiing, sans skis, whatever that might be. But aside from all this, awesome stuff, there's music, there's a cooler under and easy up. That doesn't seem to have any ice, but has plenty of drinks. This party fucking rules.
And now last night's killer is dressed up as a security officer. And he seems really horny. And we know this because he's watching a girl jump on a trampoline. It's the main show of this movie.
Very the main show. Very the main show if you were watching it through two pine trees. It was really wild. And we cut to a flashback, which says seven years earlier, but it looks like 1965.
The characters are dressed up as greasers. Every car is a classic car. Except for the killer's car. Except for the killer's car, which makes it early 90s like Trans-Ain.
Yeah, exactly. It's very odd. And there's a group of extras that are dressed more similarly to the contemporary 2005 style. But at the same time, everybody who's doing the dialogue is not.
But the thing is that there are no costumes. This is just people's clothes. They may have bought a couple of vinyl jackets for this scene. Exactly.
I would say that they might have had a connection with a community theater and it got some costumes from their earlier performance of Greece. And then the rest of everybody just showed up as they were. And this is, again, I'm going to say it once. I'm going to say it again.
It's all takes place during the daytime. There is so little of this. And it's called Sleep Over Nightmare. We deal with mostly one day of things happening.
And the sleep over is not an invite, really, for anybody here. The party and the sleep over are two separate things happening here. We got back. And the killer is having this flashback.
And the killer is remembering the time, as Benji had said in his email, the time when he just stumbled upon his girl rolling around in the little deuce coop in the backseat of this car at this car show, I guess. I don't know. It's this gathering of people. And he goes ballistic.
He ends up killing the man that she's cheating on him with by smashing his hand into the door. He pulls her away. Nobody from the party interrupts the situation at all. They're just like, let her go.
Let her go. And she's driving her. No one's helping. Nobody's helping.
Zero people are helping, even though they're distressed. He goes to drive off. Instead of driving off, normally, he decides to flip his car over the bonfire and the car catches on fire and kills his sweetheart, who is maybe not his sweetheart because he was Loretta. Yeah, their name was Loretta.
And that's the backstory for our killer. There's nothing more to it. He is just sort of this vengeful. Maybe it's like somebody read the definition of why slashers exist on paper once and was like, oh, it kills people who like to have sex.
And that's sort of where we're at. There's not much else going on here. I do have to shout out though, this car crash that we're talking about. It's not amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but it immediately scratched a trauma reusing the same car crash.
It's like, I almost wonder if we were to find out that Boone Collins, the writer and director of this movie, had reused this specific shot for like 10 other movies, I'd be like, that's checks out to me. That checks out completely. Oh, Kyle. Kyle.
Yeah. Exactly. I think you know exactly where you're going with this. Scott, do you know what Boone Collins got his, what is the most noteworthy thing Boone Collins worked on?
No. So just hit me. Kyle, how about you, tell him? It's one of the writers of Butcher Baker, Nightmare Maker.
That's like a bad. Sometimes it's like a such a Kyle pick. You know, like it's basically a Kyle pick. It made total sense for Kyle to be the one doing the plot summary because it was gonna be great.
I'm grateful for this. So we got back to the party and now things start to kind of rev up. Dwight, we've talked about Dwight hooking up with a host of the party, Shannon. He's going to help a friend, he tells his girl Carly.
And now Carly is being courted as a polite way, slightly harassed and uncomfortably approached by this goofball Harry who looks like he was kicked out of the All American reject. But he's there. He's listening to the All American reject. Holy shit.
It's pretty wild. He's a little bit away. We come to love and appreciate Harry on his terrible dancing, his terrible one liners, which he actually doesn't really share with us, but he's pitched to Carly as having a lot of jokes. I thought that I was missing something.
No. There's no, there's development only in the script, never in any acting or otherwise. There's only development laid in the script. But Tommy goes and he gets laid and we have our killer watching through the window.
We're paralleling that with Harry, who is dancing the most outrageous dance to Carly. They get into the pool and one of my favorite moments happens when they jump into this pool. When Harry finally has the guts, finally has the guts to make a move on Carly here. He asks her very gently and lovingly rub bums with me.
I questioned it. I rewound it. I'm a positive that that was what was happening here. He asked this girl to rub bums, truly rub bums.
Underwater, this is a great utilization of the underwater camera that they really, really liked to use a lot. They wanted to get a money out of that for sure. About five minutes of underwater footage in this pool. And he damn near, he gets over the clothes, bum rubbed.
And he damn near gets bare butt, his bare butt bummed rubbed before Dwight comes and interrupts the whole thing. Like, Joe Loto in Hot American Summer Moment that happens here, where his friend Rick Stoner Rick is off to the side watching his friend get bum rubbed. And he's just like, I don't believe it. He's doing it.
He's like cheering on his friend. Stoner Rick later gets killed by that beer can that was mentioned in the email. One of the better kills in this movie. One of the better kills with visual effects in the film over the comic.
It's really wild. I want to throw out there by the way that these people are making fun of the way Harry dances at this party. But if you're watching the people in the background, hey, nobody dancing well at this party. There are certain moments where I'm so charmed by, and I know Kyle, you and I talked about this before, but you're watching a movie and you're just like, that is 1,000% not the song that's playing in the background while they're filming this for the extras today.
Like, this is like a 2005 post-new metal rock song playing and people are just like, really jamming and bopping around. Again, I have to say, I just have to hammer this point home. It is before noon. I promise you that shot this before noon.
This is before noon. It's crazy. It's fucking crazy. It's really wild.
Listen, there's not too much more that happens here. In this moment in time for maybe 10 to 20 minutes, the killer is picking off party guests. There's this guy with a hat who's having a threesome, maybe. I don't know who's to say.
He gets killed while he's peeing. Of course, I think that's the first kill. And then the two girls who he's looking forward to having an Yvonne and not Lauren Ashry Carter, they get killed in the sauna. There's a stoner.
Shannon's boyfriend Michael is high on ecstasy, which is why he's out of the picture. But he's around the house. He pops up every once in a while. He gets killed.
Before Rick gets killed with a beer can, he appears two more times. One, he's hung up Texas Chainsaw Massacre style on a hook on a kayak rack in his boat house with a can in his face. And then later on we see his dead head floating in a bathtub, which we will get to momentarily. But anyway, Shannon says, bye bye everybody.
At four o'clock you have to leave. And everybody drives away in a car that is certainly not their own. They're all the extra cars from that flashback scene. There is no contemporary car in this movie.
It's fucking crazy. And we see a lot of them. So much Shannon invites Dwight and Carly to stay over at the house. And I think Shannon's trying to get this threesome thing going.
There's a lot of illusion. She can sit right on the brunettes. Yeah. Like as a leg.
Right as close as you can on the leg before you get to the crotch. Which apparently Shannon and Dwight like her vibe. I don't know how they got there. It's a bit of a weird vibe.
But earlier there's two other girls at the party who are also trying to get a three-way going on. Yeah. Everybody's trying to get three-way. I understand Benji's confusion as a young man about sexual and sexual-in-law.
Like a relational intention particularly when it comes to cheating here. I, you know, teen sex comedies, we've talked about this with American Pie and stuff. Like teen sex comedies like definitely give a young teen men particularly. But also young teen, young teen anybody.
Teenagers trying to understand any sort of sexual anything. It's confusing as fuck. So the fact that there's like two, and as I said it's always unsexy. There's like nothing happening here.
But there are two scenarios in which threesome are alluded to or attempted. Right. And it's just like if this can happen on Wednesday after you have your party sub that mom got and then left you guys to have a fucking party. Yep.
Then anything can happen. Then dreams can come true. Yeah. So Shannon invites Dwight and Carly to stay the night.
Shannon puts the moves on Carly, Dwight is sitting in the corner just hoping and praying. He's not helping though. No, he's not helping. He's not helping.
I don't know. You guys know the drink. Girls know the drink. Like what he does is, this is the lead up to the threesome.
I did write these are the only dialogue notes that I wrote. Everybody leaves a party. We cut to a shot of Shannon sitting on one end of the couch, Dwight and Carly sitting on the other end of the couch. The worst angle I've ever seen.
Shannon is petting a stuffed cat. Oh, look at the scene. She only exists for this line of dialogue. And she's petting a stuffed cat.
And if you have any, if you have any understanding, you probably know where this is going. But Carly, there's an uncomfortable silence. There's no reason that the only three of them are there. Carly says, I like your cat.
And then Dwight chimes in with, that's definitely a nice pussy there, Shannon. And it just, like, there's nothing more of a mood killer. Even if Shannon's gonna come over and give the leg rub to Carly, there is nothing more uncomfortable than that. Don't know where this, I almost wish it was fucking Garfield.
Like stuffed Garfield would just, it would just send this whole point home. But anyway, this gets aborted because, Harry finds the dead bodies of Michael and Rick in the bo-house. He's running around, he's knocking on the door. He gets into the house.
And then it's just a fucking kerfuffle. Yeah. It's insane from here. The perfect word to describe what happens for the last third of the movie.
No, it's every choice. And while I understand where Benji is saying that the cops coming in is something interesting, everything leading up to this is still chaos. People, they forget where the keys are. Go ahead, Matt.
There's a point in this movie, right? Like the cops knock on the door and they're like, hey, it's the police. And Carly is like, we can't trust them. And she says this like four or five different times to the point that I started to be like, is she somehow in on this?
Like is there going to be a twist that she's in on this because why is home girl refusing any help from anybody outside this group of boys? I don't trust the police either at all. I understand. There's a part of me that I understand.
But as an 18 year old girl who has been dead friends who have been killed by beakers and beer cans. Like the only thing that characters don't even know this, but we as an audience know that he was wearing a security officer outfit at one point in time. There is nothing narratively between them that has that knowledge. So there's no, like that would be maybe the understanding that I have is like maybe she like saw that he was dressed up as a fucking security officer.
And it's like what if it's pretending? What if he put his hair up and like clean his face and pretending to be a cop? Like it's not it. I could also under like, I don't know.
I just like fucking strategize. You know what I mean? Like strategize and be like, all right, just to be safe. You over there like get a lamp ready.
In case we need to like hit somebody in the head with a thing. But right now we got no options. Let's see if these cops get up. It's crazy to me that it's crazy to me that the thing that gives them any levity is that they ask for a badge number and he gives it.
And they're like, that's good enough for me. That's good enough for me. You know what? Furthermore, we're like, we're, you know, ACAP.
But I don't think it's as much of an ACAP situation in Canada. Like, no, right? But I watch under arrest like they, I mean, we all go like cops. But like under arrest being the Canadian cops.
Like it's I don't feel I don't feel the same way. Yeah. If you were trying to do a house, you'd pick someone who carries more authority than a Canadian cop. Yeah.
Well, it's the same. Like there's thwarted attempts like Dwight had a gun at one point in time. Didn't mean it. He shot immediately.
Like I don't know why that gun came from the gun. He's a wrecker. Yeah. But the gunshot does not get to the killer.
The killer is able to go in and out of the house pretty easily while these four kids, one being a person who lives in his house, can't get in and out of her own house. So I don't know what kind of abilities this mad man has. But he's able to like cut the head off of one of his victims, put in a bathtub, and then like, stir it off to like wait and see what arises from that. And then he ends up killing these cops that the kids could have trusted, honestly.
They had an opportunity here. And they did not take that opportunity. It gets a little comedic, not in like a slap sticky way, but just in this sort of they're making these choices that feel like the wrong choices purposely. And it gets it just starts to get a little funny.
They make it through the night. I guess that's their sleepover. I hope you had fun. I would have called my mom immediately.
And they make it through this moment. Oh, actually, hold on. Was the time the murderer gets, as they tried to escape the house before the night, the murderer gets a hold of a car, the Transam that we had mentioned before. And he runs down Dwight.
So that's hilarious, by the way. It's a pretty good. It's a pretty solid, like whoever the stunt person was. Because I actually think it was a person.
And then it was a dummy. And then it was a person that jumped over the car. There's a legit jump over a car. And then there's a dummy that lands.
And then there's a cut to a person on the ground. I was pretty surprised about that. Another great car trick. I don't know where Boone Collins is getting this action.
But it's really fantastic. High production value for sure. But they make it somewhat through the night, except that after the cops get killed, the mad man's in the house. He runs Harry down.
Harry gets thrown out of a two-story window. So now we're just hanging out with Carly and Shannon, and I've just dealt with the cards that they've been dealt. And they're now in a kayak trying to flee to the next available house down the fucking creek. But our mad man is able to swim.
He swims and he takes Shannon down. And I wasn't sure that she was dead, because there's this one shot of her underwater with her blouse open, but her bra on and her eyes closed. It seemed like she was going to open her eyes and do that. Oh, I'm alive moment.
That never happens. But the mad man takes Carly and ties her up into the house. It takes her hostage. And it's because apparently Carly looks enough, like Loretta, that he wants to keep her.
Nothing is said. Nothing is spoken. Everything is just assumed. But Carly is taken from her.
He offers her an apple. Like a gentleman. It does offer an apple. He's a very sweet man.
It gives a lot of empathy for this killer now, because he offered her an apple. Harry's still alive. He comes in and tries to cut her loose. He's able to cut her loose.
Jimmy, the Irish caretaker, comes back and he's like, no, it's fucking place. That's horrible Irish accent. That's real bad. Do you have anything?
Did you adapt anything while on your travels? Only in song. So don't put me on the spot here. OK, got it, got it.
If you end up making a song, which we've already just let me know. But he comes in, does he get killed? I actually can't remember if he got used to that. So here's the thing is, I've been waiting for this part of the day because your copy that you ripped and sent to us, the last thing that worked for me that I could watch before it just like autocuit was them in the kayak.
So I'm waiting with Bated Breth. I mean, I can smell the bait on it. I need to know what happens at the end of the movie because I knew you've seen it. But I'm tired of it.
OK, so yes, the next morning Carly is tied up. So we haven't, we've gotten to that point. And I believe Shannon's dead. It's not come back at all.
But it's a pretty anti-climactic death. Underwater camera use, though. I did see the underwater. I think I saw her die.
Yeah, she's just underwater. Like it looks like she's like going to wake up at any moment. It's crazy. But Harry ends up getting them out of the house because Jimmy is able to kind of cause a stir and cause a distraction as they escape.
They can't get into Jimmy's truck. Jimmy took his keys. There's a lot of lack of keys in this movie being the problem. Like it's kind of that, like we don't have cell phone signal and that is the problem.
Like there's no fucking keys anywhere. And so they get into the cop car though. The cop car has keys and they're having a hard time turning it over. But that's Simon starts blaring before the car even turns over and we woo woo woo now.
The mad man knows where they are. So just as they get a couple miles per hour down the dirt driveway, he jumps on top of the car on the roof. And he has the crowbar that he stole from groundskeeper Jimmy earlier on in the movie. If you're watching the Patreon, it is in the my back round photo.
And he's just jamming this into the roof over and over again. Jam. And he takes it out slowly. Jam.
And he takes it out slowly. Some VFX sparks are flying. The car is moving at five miles per hour. And it is so daunting that Carly and Harry is injured.
So he's slow. Carly has to drive. Carly drives into the ditch, into a tree. It launches our mad man into a tree, possibly killing him.
As they come out, they're going to continue down the path with their injuries and just try to find help. They turn around. Our mad man is not quite dead, but he does curl up into the fetal position. And that's enough for us.
And the credits roll for what was the estimated time map? About an hour and 15 minutes. And how much of that was credits? Nine of those minutes afterwards.
Wow. So it's an hour and 20. It's an hour and 25 and nine or 10 minutes is credits. And that is sleepover.
I wish I had watched the special feature to report back in time for this episode. But perhaps keep an eye on our social media, because I might just fucking put this movie on blast. It depends on how that goes. But that is Sleepover Nightmare from 2005 directed by Boone Collins.

You're richer than you think. We're making an ad. Napping. And this is where I think if we're doing it right, Alec Baldwin comes in.
He says a couple things. He listens to the podcast every week. Has he been canceled? Was Alec Baldwin the one who killed somebody?
I hear Gary Sinise is free. OK, great. He has a work since 2020. So what would be the script that we would have Gary Sinise save for the Napping through Happy Hour podcast?
Listen to this damn show. Damn it. The Napping Through Happy Hour podcast brought to you by Geekscape. Real life.
Real drama. Real time. I'm Gary Sinise. That's the I.
That's the I. That's the I. That's the I. Kyle, if you were having people over for your own person a little sleepover nightmare, what movie would you have them watch afterwards?
Oh, so I kept getting Rob Zombie's Halloween while I was watching this. I think I had to do with this sort of Tyler Maine-looking-ass killer that we have this crime. I mean, it's not a fun. It's not fun.
But it also does make up for the lack of sort of gore. Or, well, there's not a lot of great nudity in Rob Zombie's Halloween, but there's certainly nudity that would replace what's happening here. Rob Zombie's Halloween is what I picked. How about you?
One thing about nudity that I forgot to say is we do actually get some nudity. We see some man butt. Yeah, I do have a counter here. Yes, boy butts, too.
I'm going to say boy, man butts, too. Boy butts, too. Boy butts, too. Boy butts, too.
Boy butts, too. Boy butts, too. Boy butts, too. Boy butts, too.
Zero boobs. And it's pretty wild. Hang out with this movie for the bum rubbing machine. I promise you.
How about you, Scott? I'm going to go with Blood Hook just because they both seem so incredibly lost. Yeah. You know, Blood Hook is a lot more fun.
And it definitely has a bigger budget, which is not saying much, but it's more adept at what it's doing. And it's a much better movie. But what I would say is that they bring the same energy. No doubt.
I wrote down one thing, but I've definitely changed my mind. So what I had written down originally when watching was Serial and St. Cloud Killer, which I would be my future. I knew you were going to have history last week.
There's a way better double feature than that. OK. The Last Slumber Party from 1988. Man, that was so good.
Oh, man. I want to revisit that one. I feel like that's a rewatch for us because it's so embarrassing. I think that Matt, tell us the story.
Give us the short version of that story. Isn't it? It was in limbo forever because the guy who made it wouldn't give the negatives back or something? So the rills?
There is a whole last documentary called Shriekers. I believe it's how it's pronounced. No, it's not Shriekers. Shriekers, Shriekers, Shriekers, whatever.
I'll post about it later. But it's this beautiful documentary about these two teenage girls who took this film class in, I want to say they were in India or somewhere not in America. They took this film class with this American filmmaker who talked about all these films that he made. And they shot this film in 1992.
And they all put their investments in it. And he was helping them learn how to make film. And then he was supposed to edit the movie. And then they never heard from him again.
And he ran off and disappeared. And the documentary is about after this guy dies, his wife finds all of the cans of film and calls up these girls. And it's them rewatching the footage that they shot when they were 18 now in their 40s. And what's really interesting is that there's a lot of like Tarantino and stuff like that.
But this was before Reservoir Dogs, where it's like, if these girls had gotten to make and release this movie, they could have been like indie darlings. And this guy stole it from him. But one of the quick subplots in that movie is they mentioned that after that they didn't know this at the time, but previous to this, he had shot a horror movie in 1981 with a group of up-and-coming filmmakers. And then just fucked off with their footage.
And it took them eight years to get their footage back to assemble the movie Last Lumber Party. And like, Last Lumber Party is an overwhelmingly bloodless movie. And it was because he claimed that all of the kills went missing in his footage. And like, the theory is like that this guy genuinely wanted to help people, but at a certain point, the jealousy that they were going to be successful and he wouldn't would kick in.
And then he would try to sabotage their work. So I want to watch the movie with that lens and be like, oh man, imagine what this movie would have been if they had actually been able to salvage any of these kills. And who knows? Maybe they're in the same canister in the basement like the other film.
But yeah, Last Lumber Party, crazy movie. And you know what is a crazy thing that you guys can always do? Buy some merch from us. Go to hmnpodcast.com, go to hmn.dashery.com.

Lastly, Kyle, is there anything you watch, listen to, read, et cetera, that you want to give a shout out to? Oh yeah. I've been listening to a lot of music. So I just want to give a rundown of some of the things I've been tuning into.
I mean, there's some things that are critically acclaimed already at this point in time. The Tyler Creator album is fantastic. The new clips album is fantastic. The new Tyler Chiller's album is fantastic.
But I did just go see the mountain goes for our anniversary last month. And there was an opener, Craig Finn. And Craig Finn is the vocalist for a band called the Hold Steady. This solo project.
Yeah, yeah. So it's like, to me, it's very like sort of Springsteen E song, storyteller type music. But I just really appreciated his approach to things. And he has a new solo album out that I've been listening to a lot of.
And I really like that. The other album that I can't get enough of is Rico Nasty. So for all my hip hop heads out there, Rico Nasty is just like, she doesn't have the greatest flow. But she has this attitude and approach to her songs that I just fucking love.
And we lost Aussie Osborn recently. And there is basically like, if it's not directly a Sabbath sample, it certainly sounds like one on this song called Teeth Sucker. And I cannot get over it. Like Rico Nasty goes hard.
So that Rico Nasty album, I forgot the name of it. I just have it on this like two list and playlist that I go to every once in a while. The album is called Lethal. And I just, I've not been able to stop listening to that.
Like both is like a warm up to the day. And then also like coming back from any work. Like it just sort of hits on all cylinders if you need something that like gives you a little energy. So yeah, a lot of music right now.
I've been doing a lot of traveling. And that's sort of, as opposed to sitting and watching something music has been very helpful in that realm. Scott, how about you buddy? Well, so I finally watched the centers.
Awesome. Like you said in August's Patreon. Or no, that was the regular newsletter I believe. It's regular newsletter.
There's nothing that I can add to the conversation about it. It was just fantastic. So that was great. And I also want to mention the fact that I read a very silly book because it's not good.
Let me go back to my goodreads and see who the author is because I've forgotten now. But it's been on my Retro Horror paperback list for a long time. And Megan and I went to my child. Have I ever told you about my childhood book store?
No. OK, so I'll keep this short. So growing up, my mom would drive me to the mecca of my county seat. Like the county seat is about 20 minute drive away from our house because we live in cornfield.
And there was a bookstore there. And you could drop books off, get what's it called? Credit to buy more books. And they had an amazing paperback horror section.
So when I was in like seventh, eighth grade when I was really getting hardcore until like Stephen King and so I read my first parker and all that stuff, we would go there constantly during the summer, like maybe once a week. And it was nice because it was their condition. And NPR would play so we'd listen to the classical music. And I'd just stare at all the horror covers because that was like the heyday of like, this is why I love Retro Horror paperback covers because of this shop.
It's still there under new management. Same name, same everything, same vibe. The horror section is so sadly tiny. But every once in a while when Meghan and I go to Worcester, which is the place where we went to college, I'll be like babe, we gotta go to the bookstore and she's like, sure, sure.
So we go and she goes, oh my god, look at this one. And it's The Bog by Michael Talbot. And I have, it's one of those ones where it's got two covers. Like it's got like a little pinhole.
It's not like a pinhole, but it's like it's a cover. You know how they would do that with a VC Andrews where they'd be like, the cover and then you'd open it up and there'd be another painting on the inside. And oh my god, it's very fucking silly. It's not.
Who was the author? Michael Talbot. Michael Talbot. Yeah, Michael Talbot.
And it was from like the 80s, 80s. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I had the hard cover at some point, but wow, this paper back, beautiful. Yeah, dude.
