Bray, the sheriff of Jefferson County in Colorado, was on board a flight bound for California. As his United Airlines flight passed over the 10,000-foot Guanella Pass, he noticed flashes of light. The lights flashed in patterns: three short, three long, then three short again. Without a doubt, it was an "SOS," a call for help. The local deputy quickly alerted the flight captain who in turn reported to the authorities on the ground.
