Ladies and gentlemen welcome back to another SLJ meetup. Today I'm very excited because we're going to be speaking about one of the most incredible lunches in the world. It's the first hanging lunge in the world. It's called Skyl Lodge Peru.
And for that we're going to have the general manager and the person that makes this amazing experience happen. Her name is Natalia Rodriguez and she's going to tell us how incredible they turn this place into the unique and first hanging lunge in the world which is located in Cusco. So let's get her in and let's have a good conversation about it. All right.
How are you? Good morning. Thank you for joining us today. Thank you for the invitation.
Of course. I mean I was saying that I'm super impressed with what you guys have done in Cusco. I mean it's one of the most incredible lunches in the world. In fact it's the first hanging lunge in the world where you combine this unique experience of climbing, steep lining and being in place where you have this incredible views.
I mean I've never seen this before so tell us about it. Well we have been operating since 2010 and our main goal has been sharing a mountain experience with people without any climbing experience. So the Skyl Lodge was like an idea of this innovation on the mountain experience and gave us the opportunity to share like the last you know when you climb you use a portal edge is like a hammock you know that you use to hang off the cliff during long routes climbing routes. So thinking about these capsules these thoughts with the comfort and having this gastronomic experience, Peruvian gastronomic experience, mixing with the mountain experience it was like the best idea we had to share with the whole world.
So it has been a nice nice how do you say that? Every comfort you know like that our main goal has been achieved you know the experience that our clients had every day even when you climb and you do the sea planning without the sleeping experience it's also a gift for us not for 100% I'm just looking at it and I'm like how in the world do you get started with something like that? I mean from the logistics from the legality from getting there like there's so many questions that come to my mind but I will start with the first thing it's like all right how do you get this built like it is so surreal I mean I encourage everybody to go right now and check the Instagram face Skylodge Peru just so you see what we're talking about because it is incredible. Well we start with the BfR out now it's actually the BfR out exists in Europe and after that it has been an idea of a couple me and Ariel we were rock-langers so that's what we got the idea.
I am the genius in the logistics and he has been the genius on the design and the construction so we have been like a really good team on that. First the construction we made it here in Cusco no in our job and while the logistics we have been working with a team of mountain guides that help us to get all the things up and hang on the cliff so that was like the process of building it took us like one year building on the floor and three months hanging each part no because it was like different parts that they were get together on the during three months it was like the process. How many of those you have right now? Well right now we have four three of them are for clients for sleeping pots and we have a fourth it's the dining room where we offer a long also we have lunch during the during the day and in December of 2021 we launched the Star Lodge.
The Star Lodge is a new lodge with an anneasy access stairs access. Oh we're not afraid of climbing. No sea plant and at the start we have six more pots no with an anneasy access and a hot tub hanging from the mountain. Wow we're hot tubs well it's time to get the innovation working.
So how do we know I love it I love it when is a good time to go? Well the best part of the secret value here in Pusco is that we have rainy season only three months of the year. It's December, January, and February. Even in the rainy season we offer our share but the rest of the month from March to November we have a beautiful blue sky the day and a starry, starry, starry night where you see the milky way and all the stars now.
So we have nine months of the year where you can choose. June, July, August is our busiest season so I would recommend to come in May or September of October if you have the chance. All these people are less crowded and much bitune now so that will be the best month. I like it.
I like it. I'm already like starting to ride it on my list. It's incredible. Now when you I mean listen we are working with some of the most incredible properties all around the world right and a lot of people think that the luxury properties it comes to this beautiful multi-million dollar properties but in reality it also comes down to the experience and you are providing more than just a place to sleep.
You're providing a unique experience, incredible views and adventure and that's what it really reaches your soul. So I want to ask you like what is really luxury to you? Well for us Luxury is as you said having the experience of contact with the nature, with the mountains, with the magic of this place because in this place we have a lot of mystical elements. So actually besides the material comfort you know like having a really comfortable bed and really good food, really good wine.
I think the luxury, the best gift you can have is to just don't have any other connection that only just a contemplate you know, contemplate the place, the the the bachamama as we call it. You like it? Yeah. Wow.
Now it's incredible. So what do people do once they get there? Okay you climb you get there and then during the day what is our itinerary starts at 2 p.m. Picking you up at Incus Co citi, it's one hour and a half from from the valley.
So you you're right here at 3.30 we give you the safety talk, we dress you up with all the safety equipment and you start the ascent. So the ascent will take like one hour, one hour and a half depending on your rhythm and at 5.30, 6 p.m. you're right but at the lodge where you can enjoy the sunset, beautiful sunset, beautiful followers and at 7 we will program the dinner. So we give you the explanation on how everything works especially the toilets.
We don't have water and electricity up there at the sky. We do have it at the star lodge but at the sky lodge the the toilet is like a dry toilet system. So we give you the explanation on how it works how you communicate with the guys is like you will always be with our team of guys. No they will sleep at the dining pot and you will have a radio to communicate with them.
It's like you are calling to the front desk and you will call them by the ready. So how the ready for us, etc. You have a four-meal dinner and at the end of the night you just have the opportunity to spend the rest of the time inside your pot. Inside your pot is the only moment where you can take out your safety equipment.
So we have a transparent view with glass and you can just stay inside and enjoy the the staring. At the next day the wake-up call is at 7 a.m. breakfast serve around 8 a.m. you start at the dining pot and you start the the descent even doing the rappelling that's the first option or the sea blining that's the second option to to descend from the mountain because it's kind of just in the highest part of the sea.
So you start the descent of the mountain and you will be at the base at our base around Central Illinois. And back to Cusco City if you want to go to Cusco City or you can also stay in the valley visit Ojentai Temple and there are other ruins that are around here and we can drop you up there. So you can enjoy the rest of your day. So you can finish around 1 p.m.
That's 18 a.m. That's very nice. Look it makes me want to go for sure. So I'm sure everybody listening or watching will feel that excitement as well.
Now I wanted to wrap this up just by asking what's been the most rewarding thing of doing this for you? Well for us because I don't think only for myself it's like it's been like a really hard work for many people. We have been together for 10 years now and the reward like I told you at the beginning is like we were rock climbers, we were rock climbers, we were mountain guides and we now have the opportunity to share a mountain experience with people. And seeing that this idea just has been so world, no?
Like how do you say that? No? Like people just think as each time that they sleep there or they do the activities they just call it like a once in a lifetime experience. So we really feel that our goal has been achieved, you know?
It's like and we have been working that each detail and each day of the service and we were like a family from the beginning. Now we are more people than the beginning but we are still a family. So working in this, I think that it's rewarding. Oh 100% family business coming with your passions and turning our vision into reality.
So congratulations, very excited for you guys. Congratulations really. Like it's not an easy work and you guys are just rocking it. So I'll be thrilled to go check it out and for those that I listen or watching and have a question or one book, where is the best place they can go?
We have our web page, Natura Vivet.com, but you can also write us at Instagram, not SkyLochPelu or Natura Vivet. We can help you in that. Well Natalia, muchas, thank you very much. I really appreciate your time.
Stay safe there and looking forward to seeing you very soon. Okay, we hope to see you soon here. Thank you. That's it.
