Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another SLJ Mira, your host, Avar Nune, to bring you another successful and interesting guest in the luxury space. And today we're going to have somebody that might look familiar to a lot of you, especially if you love Luxury Real Estate. He is one of the cast members for the top ranked TV show on Netflix buying Beverly Hills. And he has founded one of the now leading brokerages within the agency called the BC Group.
His name is Joey BC and he's going to tell us all about how his journey has been going skyrocketing through the show, his career, and everything that he's doing in between selling some of the most amazing homes in Los Angeles. So let's get him in. There he is. Hello.
How are you? Amazing. I'm so happy to be on the live podcast. There we go.
I mean, you're a fan character. I will see you later. And you're quite a character. So congratulations by the way, first of all, on what you're doing with your team as well as what you've been doing on the show.
What an incredible journey. Thank you. I appreciate it. You know, at the end of the day, a lot of people forget, but we sell real estate.
So, you know, the show was an incredible platform. It got us a lot of great exposure. But I just, you know, it's a show. It's an entertaining show.
How different it is. The Joey that we see on TV versus the Joey that is on the day to day selling homes. Exactly. But might say a few less offensive things.
Well, I mean, you just say whatever comes to your mind and I love that about you. You just don't have a filter. This is authentic and as raw as it gets, which is what people really like at the end of the day. Right?
They connect with you. Some people don't, but the majority will. I always say at the end of the day, you know, you end up finding your people. And I think that the people that I work with in particular have gotten to love and appreciate the the Ronis and the sort of, you know, no filter nature that I have because it's the same when it comes to the process of buying the home.
I'm going to tell you if you're being steered the wrong way. I'm going to tell you my thoughts. You might not always like it, but you know, that's that's not what I'm there for. I'm there to really advise on the value that you're getting when you're purchasing or selling real estate.
So, there is a before and after Joey being on the show. So how has your life changed after being showcasing the show? Just a lot more. DMS a lot more.
There you go. I hope good ones. Good bad neurotic, but overall, like I said, the exposure has been so great for the business and, you know, the feedback has overall been so positive. I've been told not to scour the internet, but most of what I'm seeing most of what people are sending me has been overwhelmingly positive and I'm, you know, very grateful that it's been well received show so far.
Well, you just said it right there. Attention is one of the strongest currencies. So being on Netflix and having that eyeballs coming your way definitely has helped your team and with your real estate career, I'm sure a lot of the M's are coming your way are potential buyers or even sellers. I want to list with you.
That's exactly right. I think people overlook the power of social media. You do such an amazing job with it. But we meet a lot of real buyers and sellers through this powerful little, little brick in our hands.
Yeah, no, that's that's indeed. So what would you say was your biggest lesson from being in the show? I think I think I learned a new lesson every day, but, you know, that's a loaded question. I think just on a basic level, kind of putting yourself out there, you will always get people that agree with you, people that disagree with you going back to what I was saying earlier is you always kind of find your people.
And I think that you just kind of have to remain positive and you will eventually attract your kind. So that's kind of my biggest takeaway is that like, you know, you get this huge exposure, you get all these people viewing your show and everyone's going to have an opinion. But at the end of the day, you just have to kind of feel good about what you're doing and keep marching forward. I like how do you do that?
Like how do you actually remain calm and avoid confrontations when there's so many opinions and so many haters as well? I don't, honestly. No, when I do remain calm, it's just a mindset thing. At the end of the day, like I said, there are going to be the people that are for you and the people that are not for you and the haters, so to speak, you know, they're probably were never going to be a good fit for me anyways.
So in a sense, by this getting, you know, this show being out there, everything about there being about me being out there kind of expedites that process. Now, I'm not saying, you know, you could see me on the show and be like, wow, I really hate that guy and then meet me in person. And I have a totally different opinion that's happened once or twice. But overall, I think it kind of just helps expedite that process of, you know, figuring out who my people truly are.
So tell me a bit about the team, right? The agency. I mean, it was a lot of fun because we were shooting the second season here in Miami. One of the distance that we had in there and I was like, where's no guy's missing?
They didn't want me there. I was too much of a liability for Miami. Oh, there you go. It is through Miami.
Can we just play for some people? No, that does a lot of fun. How do you keep that, I guess, teamwork on growing in that direction? Because I see that you travel together, but there's also the drama between like, how do you keep that healthy environment?
I mean, we just do it's always been about priorities. And I think everyone in our office that at least that I work closely with, we're all lucky enough to be surrounded by people who have the same priorities within, you know, work, life, goals. And I think that despite whatever drama you may see unfold, everyone at the end of the day shows up to work every day. And our priority is selling real estate and bringing value to our clients.
And we can push our problems aside, push our ego aside and our camaraderie is second to not. So and I think you can see that through the show through all the drama. You do see a lot of really true love and teamwork. I like that the agency has those rules and one of them is no assholes, right?
So somehow I'm. Yeah, like how about you break it from talking? But so let's not real estate. How is the market currently in LA?
Because I see that there's been a lot of these going on and there's new laws. So how is it? That's a great way of describing it. First of all, there's so many headwinds in this market between interest rates, which affect the market globally.
And then specific to our market is the mansion tax called measure, ULA. There's wildlife ordinance peaking its head. So there's a lot of headwinds and potential headwinds that we're dealing with here. But it's a weird market because the good product is going in multiples over asking.
So we still have that environment. But at the same time, there's property that maybe a year, a year and a half ago would have sold in multiples that has been sitting. No offers, absolutely stagnant. So I think this is a great time for sellers to get realistic about price knowing that there are real buyers.
Things are going in multiples, but sellers that are even marginally overpriced right now are getting punished. Right. So kind of putting back into reality the price. We're experiencing something similar here in Miami, right?
We're doing covid prices went completely up and now all sellers are just wanting to keep that right of like, Hey, let's keep selling at that price. But then what happens is what you mentioned and there's still those buyers that buy overpriced and then the market kind of like fluctuates a little bit. So it's interesting to see what's going on in the late for sure with all these laws. But I'm curious to see from your angle as now being on the show, are leveraging that to get listed and to market them because I love that in the show, the second season you were marketing the ranch as you as a result.
That was so fun. So what's your main go to right now for marketing at home? So like I said from the beginning, right now what we're doing is an incredible tool, but kind of getting a lot more savvy with the content, a lot more savvy with the social media. We obviously have already, if you want to check out our website and, you know, do some digging, you can see that we put a lot into kind of creating a cinematic experience for for our higher end listings and, you know, listening to any level pretty much.
But I think sort of the experience that you have from from a cinematic perspective really can create an emotional experience while you're viewing. So we put a lot into that and then social media exposure and just using the internet and beyond. I like that. It's fun to watch for sure.
So what will you tell your younger self if you had to start over? Don't say that. Don't say that. A few times I would have said that in my life.
That's funny. No, I think I would have I would have told myself to just go harder. Well, just always go harder. Sometimes we cruise a little bit.
Yeah, you can always go harder. Absolutely. That's a good point. That's a good point.
It's a good reminder for especially the younger one starting like now is the time to push because it compounds right? Yep. So listen, I always have this question for all of our guests and I'm very curious to know what it's actually like to you. Luxury to me is is more about the client experience than the price point.
I think it's about a certain servicing certain people that expect a return and experience and expect certainty. And obviously there's no way of guaranteeing certainty, especially in this kind of market. But what you can do is you can provide that white glove service and have the client understand that you're with them every step of the way. And I think, you know, we do that with the way that we handle every single client.
I like it. I like that. Well, yeah, I mean, listen, the experience of the other day is where we differentiate the whole process. So as you guys are doing that, I can see that.
So I'm excited. Are you guys coming back to Miami? Are you coming to visit us? I hopefully when the cameras are off.
Oh, yeah. Well, listen, then, come anytime then. What will I want is happening in May. So we're going to see you for that.
All right. Sounds good. Well, Joey, for those that want to check more about what you're doing with the BCP group or any list that you have, where can they find you? You can find me on my Instagram, Joey Benz V, B and Z like Zebra, V like Victor, I like Isaac or BZP group.
