Sligo Councillor calls for more roads to be gritted
There are renewed calls for Sligo's winter gritting programme to be extended. The current plan for Sligo includes seven priority routes totalling 486km, covering national roads and regional/main commuter roads. Sligo County Council has previously stated that there's no capacity to increase routes. The call comes as the region continues to grapple with the current cold snap, with many roads deemed treacherous yesterday morning. Sinn Fein Cllr Arthur Gibbons previously suggested a system where residents associations could avail of bags of salt and address issues in their area. He believes it's high time that this proposal be revisited:
