Each year Slovakia grows about 1.3 million tonnes of sugar beets. To find out what is done with this bountiful harvest we are going on a tour of sugar country. We spoke with Augustin, a farmer in Bošáca, who uses the beets to feed his animals. Vladimira Frohnová gave us a tour of a sugar factory where these beets are turned into sugar. Natália Ombrózová and Lenka Šimkovičová from Old Harold distillery in Trenčín showed us how Repák, a sugar beet spirit, is made. Finally, Silvia Hill offered her grandmother's recipe for sugar beet cakes.
