James 1:19-21 gives us a simple but challenging pattern for daily life: be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Listening requires humility, and humility reflects the character of Christ. Human anger does not produce God's righteousness, and the story of David, Nabal, and Abigail shows just how costly unchecked anger can be. James calls us to remove the things that fight against God's Word taking root in us, and to receive that Word with meekness. What we plant in our hearts is what grows, and what grows is what comes out under pressure. God's Word is not just moral advice. It is living truth that points us to a Savior and teaches us how to live.
